Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh are marching towards Delhi under 'Delhi Chalo' to demand legal guarantees for MSP and other farmer-centric reforms.
The protest follows inconclusive talks with Union ministers regarding MSP and other demands.
Unlike the 2020 agitation which focused on repealing three farm laws, this protest demands MSP legal assurance, debt waivers, pensions, and withdrawal of cases against 2020 protesters.
The 2020 protest was led by BKU and SKM, while 'Delhi Chalo' is led by Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
Prominent leaders include Rakesh Tikait and Gurnam Singh Charuni in 2020, and Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher in 'Delhi Chalo'.
In 2020, all cases against protesters were withdrawn, but MSP legal guarantee wasn't addressed. Negotiations have started earlier this time.
Stringent measures like barbed wires, cement barricades, and road nails have been deployed to restrict access to Delhi, unlike the 2020 protest where farmers were allowed to enter.
Section 144 has been implemented in Delhi, and Haryana has closed its borders with Punjab.
The landscape of farmers' unions has evolved over the years, with different unions leading the current protest.
The demands and dynamics of the 'Delhi Chalo' protest differ significantly from the 2020 agitation.
