Airplanes are seen as one of the safest modes of travel in the world, however, there have been several deadly air crashes in the past

Here is a list of such flight disasters in history where tragedy struck and many lives were lost

The deadliest plane accident is the collision in 1977, between two Boeing 747s at Tenefire in the Canary Islands, in which 583 were killed

In 1985, an Air India Flight traveling from Canada to India Via London, exploded off the Irish Coast, Killing all 329 people on board

In 1985, Japan Airlines Flight 123 from Tokyo to Osaka crashed, killing 520 out of the 524 onboard, after a faulty repair of the tail by Boeing technicians

A Spanair MD-82 aircraft burst into flames while taking off from Madrid airport, killing 154 people, in 2008

In 2009, an Air France Airbus A330 was lost over the Atlantic Ocean on its way from Rio de Janeiro to Paris killing all 228 people on board

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was traveling over Ukraine in 2014 when it crashed after being hit by a Russian missile which took the lives of 298 people on board

A Yeti Airlines aircraft crashed in Nepal in 2023 killing 71 people was the worst air crash in three decades in the small Himalayan nation
