Article 370 Verdict Of SC: Women To Get 33% Quota In J&K Assembly

Supreme Court Of India delivered its verdict on Article 370 Abrogation and bifurcation of the state into 2 UTs.

Apex court upheld government's decision and said that steps should be taken to conduct elections in assembly by September 30, 2024

SC also upheld reorganization of Ladakh as Union Territory.

Five-judge constitution bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, and Surya Kant passed the judgment.

The government is planning to  introduce two bills in Parliament

Bills are for reservation of 33% seats for women in the assemblies of Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry

Parliament passed Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam to provide reservation of one-third of seats for women in Lok Sabha and Assemblies.

Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam shall come into effect after a delimitation exercise is undertaken in 2029.
