Massive Nationwide Protest In Bangladesh Killed 39 So Far

Fueled by high unemployment the nationwide protest claimed 39 lives so far.

The biggest protest since Hasina was re-elected earlier this year started last month after the High Court reinstated a quota system for government jobs.

Protesters are demanding the end of 30 percent of government jobs for the families of people who fought in the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan.

The capital's main university campus had been the site of the worst of the nationwide protests, but on Thursday there were demonstrations in other pockets of the city.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government had scrapped the quota system in 2018.

To make matters worse Hasina used the term 'razakar' for students (volunteers) - a term used for those who allegedly collaborated with the Pakistan.
