After being launched in November 1998, the International Space Station (ISS) has spent 25 years in orbit.
NASA posted an Instagram post on the 25th anniversary that included information regarding the ISS's accomplishments.
Humans have lived and worked in the orbiting laboratory since November 2, 2000, and performed 3,300 research and educational investigations.
The International Space Station has been visited by 273 people from 21 countries working together for "explorations for travel to the Moon, Mars, and beyond".
A view of the space station in the dark of space, about 2000. It is made up of two cylindrical modules that are connected at the ends.
The lengthier, cream-colored Zarya module is marginally more colorful than the slightly grayer Unity. Two solar panels shoot out from Zarya in both directions.
This is the station as observed during a fly-by of the SpaceX Crew Dragon Endeavour after it had undocked from the space-facing port of the Harmony module.
Each side has four sets of golden solar arrays, and three sets of gray radiator panels fold upward. The whole vessel is almost as big as a football field.
