Astronomers have seen a unique, incredibly high-energy particle descend to Earth.
Scientists claim that this cosmic ray, which bears the name of the Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu, is among the highest energy ones ever discovered.
The Oh-My-God particle, another ultra-high-energy cosmic ray that was discovered in 1991, is the particle with the highest energy in recorded history

Though the particle's origins are unclear, analysts think that only the strongest celestial events—bigger than a star explosion—are capable of producing them.
When initially discovered the particle, an expert commented, "This must have been a mistake". "It showed an energy level unprecedented in the last three decades,"
Scientists are left with even more questions as the particle seems to appear out of nowhere.
It seemed to come from the Local Void, a void that surrounded the Milky Way galaxy.
"These occurrences appear to be originating from quite distinct locations in the heavens. There are several enigmatic sources, not just one,"
