Japan's Moon  Mission takes off, landing in four  to six months

Japan's SLIM Moon-lander  mission finally launched  after a number of weather- related delays on September 7

 Japan would become the fifth nation in the world to  successfully land on the Moon  if the SLIM spacecraft  were to do so

SLIM, or the Smart Lander for Investigating the Moon, will  land on the Moon in four to six months after beginning an unusually long journey there

The SLIM spacecraft would  be the tiniest and lightest to successfully touch  down on the Moon

The Japan Aerospace  Exploration Agency (JAXA) received congratulations from  the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the successful launch

A private Japanese company's prior attempt, undertaken in  May of this year, had failed

SLIM is a relatively small  200kgs  spacecraft .  In contrast, the  lander module for  Chandrayaan-3 weighed  around 1,750 kg

The objective of the mission  is to advance scientific  knowledge of the formation  of the universe and  celestial objects
