National Voters Day is celebrated on 25 January to encourage the youth to participate in the vote in the electoral process.
It also focuses on the fact that the right to vote is a basic right.
It is celebrated since 2011 to mark the foundation of Election Commission of India, i.e. 25th January 1950.
The Election Commission's main objective is to increase the enrolment of voters
Earlier, the eligibility age of the voter was 21 years but in 1988 it was lowered to 18 years.
It is celebrated every year with a particular theme.
The theme for 2024 NVD, ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure’ is dedicated to voters and conveys individuals’ feelings and aspirations toward participation in the electoral process through the power of their vote.
