Scientists have issued a warning about a "horned" comet that is presently speeding toward Earth and is three times bigger than Mount Everest
The comet, 12P/Pons-Brooks, is a cryovolcanic comet, sometimes known as a cold volcano.
It erupted on October 5 and has an enormous circumference of 18.6 miles (30 kilometers).
This was the comet's second eruption in the past four months; the previous one took place in July.
British Astronomical Association, which has been closely observing 12P, discovered the explosion after observing that its coma—the cloud gas surrounding its center—made it appear thousands of times brighter.
The comet won't be visible to the human eye until 2024, when it will be at its closest point to Earth, according to scientists.
After being launched back into the solar system, this comet won't begin its cosmic homecoming trip until 2095.
Notably, this explosion marks 12P's second since July 20, when it burst for the first time in 69 years. The horn-like emissions from this explosion were 7,000 times broader than the comet itself.
