Astronauts moon landing stimulation at NASA Facility

It appears from Eerie new images that astronauts have actually returned to the moon.

Although the area around them appears to be the moon, it is actually a rock yard at NASA's Johnson Space Centre (JSC) in Houston, Texas. Black walls and lamps replicate the harsh conditions of the moon's surface.

To acclimatise to the weight and feel of the cumbersome costumes, they are wearing prototypes of spacesuits that are not fully sealed.

The Joint EVA Test Team takes astronauts into the nighttime desert environment, where lamps are set up to mimic the intense lunar sun.

NASA's Artemis programme, which intends to land humans on the moon on the Artemis 3 mission no early than 2025 or 2026, will depend heavily on these drills.

Astronauts use JSC's facilities as one method of simulating lunar walking.

The facility has features akin to those of the moon, including "interesting geology, difficult terrain, and sparse communications infrastructure."

NASA has committed to include foreign astronauts as well as women and people of colour on Artemis programme trips.

Koch will be the first woman, Glover the first Black person to exit low Earth orbit, and Hansen the first non-American. Additionally, other space realms consistently establish records for variety.
