Asteroid Bigger Than The Largest Passenger Aircraft To Pass Earth At Close Distance

NASA provided information on an asteroid predicted to pass Earth by a narrow margin using a number of its cutting-edge ground- and space-based telescopes.

The space agency said that the asteroid, designated as Asteroid 2023 VR4, is accelerating through its orbit at a speed of 37902 kilometers per hour.

NASA's Defense Coordination Office (PDCO) reports that asteroid 2023 VR4 will travel 6.8 million kilometers past Earth.

It is a member of the Aten group of asteroids, which are near-Earth asteroids that cross Earth and have semi-major axes that are smaller than Earth's.

This asteroid is not considered a potentially hazardous object and is considered non-threatening even though it is approaching very closely.

The asteroid is considerably larger than the Airbus A380, the biggest passenger plane in the world, according to NASA estimates that it is approximately 295 feet broad!

NASA has already conducted the first test of its DART Mission for planetary security in 2022 in response to the threat presented by asteroids.

In order to successfully test an asteroid diversion technique, the space agency crashed a spacecraft into an approaching asteroid.
