On June 18, outside a Sikh cultural institution in Surrey, British Columbia, Hardeep Singh Nijjar  was shot and killed. "Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian  soil is an unacceptable violation  of our sovereignty," Trudeau declared .

The administration of PM Modi denies any involvement in the purported murder. Officials from Canada have so far refrained from explaining why they think India may have been involved  in Nijjar's slaying.

India has called the claims "absurd" and charged that  Canada has turned into a "safe haven" for terrorists.

With major allies like the Five Eyes information sharing partnership, which consists of the United  States, Britain, Australia, and  New Zealand, Canada has raised the matter, drawing concern  from Washington, London , and Canberra.

Both Canada and India expelled their diplomats in response  to the public claims that  strained bilateral relations. The Canadian facility that  processes visas for India  ceased operations on Thursday.

India has temporarily stopped providing Canadians with visa services due to the escalating diplomatic dispute.

Justin Trudeau, the prime  minister of Canada, accused  the Narendra Modi administration of a crime it had not committed instead of presenting evidence of its alleged agents' involvement  in the murder of Hardeep  Singh Nijjar.

Following a week of tensions, accusations, and counterattacks, both India and Canada issued travel warnings and dismissed a top official from the other nation.

India has also accused Canada  of not acting upon "specific evidence about criminal activities" done by Canada -based individuals.
