PM Modi Congratulates Neeraj Chopra As He Breaks 90m Barrier At Doha Diamond League 2025

Neeraj Chopra made history at the Doha Diamond League 2025, becoming the first Indian javelin thrower to break the 90-metre mark in international competition.

With a powerful throw of 90.23 metres, Chopra shattered his own personal and national record. Though he finished second behind Germany’s Julian Weber, who threw 91.06 metres, Chopra’s milestone remains a monumental moment in Indian athletics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among millions who celebrated the achievement. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “A spectacular feat! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for breaching the 90 m mark at Doha Diamond League 2025 and achieving his personal best throw. This is the outcome of his relentless dedication, discipline and passion. India is elated and proud.”

Chopra responded warmly, saying: “Thank you shri @narendramodi ji for your kind words and encouragement. I hope to continue and give my best for the country always!”

Despite the historic throw, Chopra called the moment “bittersweet.” He expressed pride in the achievement but noted a pattern of second-place finishes, similar to those in Stockholm and Turku, where he also fell just short of gold despite record efforts.

Chopra revealed that recent seasons were tough due to persistent groin injuries. However, he now feels stronger and more confident.

“This year, I feel much better… I believe I can throw more than 90m in the upcoming events,” he said, signalling more records may fall soon.

Chopra’s performance at the Doha Diamond League 2025 confirms his place among the world’s elite and adds a golden chapter to India’s athletics journey.
