The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a petition filed by former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, current Chief Minister Atishi, and others on September 30. The petition challenges a Delhi High Court decision regarding a criminal defamation case linked to statements about removing members of the Agarwal community from the voting list.
During a recent hearing, BJP leader Rajiv Babbar’s lawyer informed the court that he had filed a caveat on Babbar’s behalf, but technical issues had prevented it from being processed. As a result, the court decided to postpone the hearing.

The defamation case stems from allegations made in 2019, when Rajiv Babbar accused Kejriwal, Atishi, and two others—Manoj Kumar and Sushil Kumar Gupta—of inciting public sentiment against the BJP on social media. The court previously issued summons to the accused, mandating their appearance.
The controversy has sparked a heated exchange between leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP. AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, have questioned why the BJP allegedly removed names of 400,000 voters from the Agarwal community, out of a total of 800,000 Baniya voters in Delhi. They argue that the BJP’s policies, such as demonetization and the Goods and Services Tax (GST), have negatively impacted traders, leading to a decline in support for the party.
As tensions rise, the Supreme Court’s upcoming hearing could have significant implications for both the political landscape in Delhi and the ongoing conflict between the two parties.
