August is going to be a big month for Moon watchers, with two supermoons happening in the same month
The month will kick off with what's known as the "sturgeon supermoon"
And it'll end with a "blue supermoon"
A supermoon occurswhen there's a full moon and at the same time the Moon is closest to Earth
A supermoon appears 14 per cent bigger than a micromoon and 30 per cent brighter
A blue moon is when a full moon happens twice in a calendar month
NASA says blue moons usually only happen every two and a half years
This double feature of supermoons is a unique eventThe last time two full supermoons graced the sky in the same month in 2018
The first of these supermoons will rise on Tuesday evening, appearing larger and brighter than usual due to its proximity to Earth at just 3,57,530 kilometers away
The second supermoon, also known as a blue moon, will occur on the night of August 30. This moon will be even closer to Earth, at a mere 3,57,344 kilometers distant
