Longest Rivers in India

India has over 200 rivers, many of them worshipped by millions. Here's a list of the country's longest rivers

Ganga, also known as the Ganges, is the longest river in India - 2,523 km. It originates in the Western Himalayas and flows thriugh the Gangetic plains  

Godavari is the second-longest river in India with 1,464 km length. It is popularly called "Dakshina Ganga".It originates in the Western Ghats near Trimbakeshwar in Maharashtra

Krishna, around 1,400 km long, originates from Mahabaleshwar and eventually flows into the Bay of Bengal

Yamuna, also called Jamuna originates from the Yamunotri glacier in Uttarakhand. It is the longest tributary of River Ganges- 1,376 km

Narmada is the largest river of Peninsular India. It originates in the Amarkantak range of mountains in Madhya Pradesh. The river traverses a course of 1,312 km

The Indus River originates from the Mansarover lake in the Tibetan plateau, and flows through Ladakh as well as some regions of Kashmir

Brahmaputra river, which originates in the Angsi glacier, is the seventh- longest river in India with a length of 916 km

The river Mahanadi runs for a length of around 890 km, making it the eighth-longest in India
