The 36-island group known as Lakshadweep is renowned for its sun-kissed, exotic beaches and verdant surroundings.
In Malayalam and Sanskrit, the name Lakshadweep translates to "a hundred thousand islands."
Lakshadweep, the smallest Union Territory in India, is an archipelago of 36 islands covering 32 square kilometers.
There are ten inhabited islands, three reefs, five submerged banks, and twelve atolls that make up this union territory with only one district.
The islands cover 32 square kilometres. Kavaratti serves as both the UT's capital and its main town.
Lakshadweep's natural scenery, sandy beaches, profusion of flora and fauna, and lack of a fast-paced lifestyle all contribute to its allure.
Regular flights from Kochi provide good connectivity to the islands. The warmest months are April and May when the average temperature is 32° C.
The best months to visit the islands are October through March.
The entry to Lakshadweep islands is restricted. One requires an entry permit issued by Lakshadweep Administration to visit these islands.
