Amid a row over a post by a Maldives minister, Days after PM Modi's visit to the Lakshadweep Islands, many have canceled their planned holidays to the Island Nation
The controversy arises from a post by a Maldives Minister claiming that India faces challenges in competing with the Maldives in Beach tourism
PM Modi visited the Union territory comprising 36 islands with an area of 32 SQKM. This was seen as a move to promote tourism on the Island.
Many Indian celebrities also expressed their solidarity with the Archipelago and encouraged fellow citizens to explore Lakshadweep.
Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar also shared remarks at the derogatory comments given by some of the Maldives public figures.
Shraddha Kapoor added that she also wishes to explore the pristine beaches and coastlines of the Lakshadweep.
The diplomatic tension between India and the Maldives has spiked in recent months, Particularly after Mohamed Muizi assumed office last year.
The new president has indicated a shift in foreign policy, signaling closer ties with China and a departure from the previous"India first approach"
The Maldives govt stated that these are individual opinions and not the view of the government.
