The sweet and sour, buttery Shreekhand is a North Indian dessert that has many fans in Kerala too.

If you love this delicious thick yoghurt flavoured with saffron, cardamom and more, you can try making a simple version of it at home for this Deepavali.

The weight watchers among you should portion control a bit but hey, what's Deepavali without a little indulgence?  Here's the recipe:

Ingredients 2 cups fresh curd 1 cup powdered sugar 1/2 cup powdered cardamom 5 pieces each of badam and cashew 1 banana, cut into 5 thin pieces 1 or 2 pinches of saffron

Preparation

Pour the fresh curd into a strainer cloth and weigh down the muslin cloth until its water content is completely removed

Shift the drained curd in a bowl and mix it together with the sugar, cardamom, and saffron Stir it well using a hand beater or whisk

Keep the mix in a refrigerator for two hours and serve it garnished with cherry, cashew, and badam

Sreekhand can be made even more delicious by adding apple, sliced into pieces, or orange pods
